The Baotou municipal finance bureau recently issued a central government forestry reform and development fund of 200 million yuan ($29.7 million) to provide financial support for the large-scale development of land greening in the city and promote the construction of an important ecological security barrier in north China.
The city's 2022 Central Finance Land Greening Pilot Demonstration Project has a total construction area of 181,000 mu (12,067 hectares), and the project construction site is located along the city's Daqing Mountain.
The project will involve artificial afforestation, restoration of degraded forests, and forest tending, as well as four national land greening projects – including ecological restoration along the Daqing Mountain, precise improvement of forest quality in State-owned forest farms, vegetation restoration in natural parks, and rural greening.
Moving forward, the project will adhere to the principles of scientific greening and comprehensive management with the goal of improving the ecosystem's carbon sink capacity. It will create pilot demonstrations in various areas, such as carbon sink capacity enhancement, carbon sink monitoring and evaluation, and the realization of multiple carbon sink values.
