China has emerged as the world’s largest producer of electronic components, with several categories such as acoustic components, magnetic materials, and optoelectronic cables achieving top global output. The overall scale of the electronic components industry has exceeded 2 trillion yuan ($285.8 billion). The local supply chain is also gradually improving, offering a full range of product categories that can effectively meet various market demands.
Currently, the added value of China's electronic components products remains relatively low, with self-use andexported products primarily falling into the medium-to-low end. The country still heavily relies on imports for core ICs, basic electronic materials, and equipment. Especially in the sectors such as semiconductors, power devices, and glass substrates, there exists a significant gap compared to the international advanced levels and there is ample room for optimizing the product structure.
The development of key materials and technologies in the electronic components industry has been included in the national 14th Five-Year Plan(2021-25), which signifies that the industry will receive continuous and robust policy support, as well as funding support from the industry funds and social capital in the future.
