Beijing has advanced in the development of artificial intelligence and will continue to lead the country in related technological innovation.

In China, the capital city ranks first in the number of AI companies present, the number of published papers about AI, AI computing power and industrial agglomeration ability in core areas.

By October, Beijing holds 1,048 AI companies, contributing 29 percent to the country's total. It has more than 40,000 core technical talent, which was, at that moment, 60 percent of China.

Of the world's top 100 institutions in terms of the number of AI-related patents granted, 30 are headquartered in Beijing. The city has also established a full-stack industrial chain for AI.

Beijing has released an action plan for the development of its digital economy to stimulate the vitality of the industry.

The plan puts forward measures such as improving the supply capacity of digital technology and nurturing the ecology for its innovation, according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology on May 30, 2022.

It focuses on breakthroughs in core technologies in high-end chips, artificial intelligence, key software, blockchain, privacy computing, urban space operating systems and other fields.

Domestic and foreign open-source projects and institutions will be attracted to land in Beijing, and efforts to open and share data will be further intensified, according to the plan.

Next, efforts will be made to cultivate core sectors of the digital economy, including high-end chips, industrial software, artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing.

In 2022, the added value of Beijing's digital economy reached 1.73 trillion yuan ($246.3 billion), up 4.4 percent year-on-year, accounting for 41.6 percent of the city's GDP, official data showed.
