Sony's "Dream Classroom" inspires rural education, sustainability in China

On July 16, 2024, the results conference of 11th "Sony Dream Classroom" was held at the Sony Pictures Academy in Beijing. Representatives from Sony China, government departments, universities, rural schools, NGOs, and media professionals in the field of sustainable development attended this conference.

In the 11th "Sony Dream Classroom" program, student volunteers from 30 Chinese colleges and universities received professional pre-departure training to learn about the concepts and trends of SDGs and rural revitalization, among other important development issues, as well as science experiments provided by Sony ExploreaScience. During the program, the student volunteers worked in teams to visit rural schools in 20 cities across 16 provinces across China, and designed unique sustainable development-themed courses and science experiments for the children in the villages.
The program aimed to build a bridge of knowledge transfer and emotional communication between the city and the countryside, promoting the balanced development of educational resources. It also empowered the environmental awareness, scientific exploration ability and innovative thinking of the rural children, while enhancing the awareness of sustainable development and social responsibility of the young university students.

Takeshi Yoshida, President of Sony China, said at the conference that in the future, Sony China will further leverage its diversified strengths and work with all parties to bring innovative educational experiences to children in more regions and inspire their dreams. Also, Sony China will actively explore new online forms to expand impact of the "Sony Dream Classroom".

From 2013 to 2023, Sony China has established 318 "Dream Classrooms" in 159 cities across 31 provinces in China, with a cumulative total of 10,007 days of teaching, 42,005 hours of classes. A total of 3,720 university students from 92 colleges and universities and 74,491 primary and secondary school students have directly participated in this program.
