The State Grid Shanghai Electric Power Company reported a record 6.68 billion kilowatt-hour in green power trading for 2025, a new historical high, as government efforts to expand the sector intensify, the company said on Friday.
Among them, the inter-provincial green power trading volume reached 6.07 billion kWh, while the intra-city green power trading volume reached 610 million kWh, as the city has been actively promoting the consumption of clean energy while accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation, it said.
According to the State Grid Shanghai Electric Power, the number of charging piles entering the electricity market in Shanghai was close to 10,000 by the end of 2024, a 500 percent year-on-year increase.
The company said green electricity traded for charging piles in Shanghai in 2025 will exceed 400 million kWh, enabling more new energy vehicles in Shanghai to be using green energy.
By the end of 2023, the number of new energy vehicles in Shanghai reached 1.288 million, ranking first among global cities. In 2024, 265,000 new energy vehicles were newly registered in Shanghai. In response, the State Grid Shanghai Electric Power has continuously deepened the virtual power plant operation system and has accumulated about 450,000 kWh of regulation resources for electric vehicles and charging piles.
As the first project in Shanghai where all new energy vehicles will be charging with green energy, the charging station on Fute North Road in the city, which was put into operation in June, has provided about 280,000 KWH of green electricity after six months of operation, it said.
