At the exhibition hall of Ganzhou Sentai Bamboo & Wood Co Ltd, located in Ganzhou, East China's Jiangxi province, the gentle sound of a musical instrument can be heard, raising a curious question: why is music playing in a bamboo factory?

Stepping inside, a staff member can be found tapping bamboo keys on a specially made instrument. "This bamboo tube piano is crafted primarily from bamboo," said Luo Zhen, manager of the company's administration department. "It combines the mechanical structure of a traditional tubular instrument with bamboo-based soundboards and resonating components—an innovation in both design and material."

Shangyou county, where the factory is located, boasts a forest coverage rate of 81.8 percent and a total forest area of 1.86 million mu (some 124,000 hectares). With more than 240,000 mu of moso bamboo, it is one of the most important bamboo-producing areas in Jiangxi.

In recent years, the county has seized the global opportunity of "replacing plastic with bamboo," actively exploring new industrial models and pushing its bamboo sector toward high-end, eco-friendly, and international development.

Through continuous technological innovation, Sentai Bamboo & Wood has expanded the use of bamboo into various fields, including interior design and construction. The company now offers a rich variety of high-quality bamboo goods.

Inside the exhibition hall, beyond the array of bamboo products, large photographs of iconic architectural landmarks are on display. "All these buildings used our bamboo structural components," said Xu He, general manager of the company. "From the Shanghai Library and a museum in Hong Kong to pavilions at the Osaka Expo in Japan, Samsung Office Building in South Korea, and Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam in Netherlands, our bamboo has found its way into architecture across the world."

In the factory's processing workshop, production was in full swing. Workers skillfully operated the machines, cutting, sawing and planing pieces of bamboo.

Xu showcased a bamboo panel: "Bamboo has cross-grain fracture toughness comparable to aluminum alloy, and its longitudinal compressive strength exceeds ordinary concrete. Houses built with engineered bamboo are not only safe and durable, but also energy-efficient and aligned with sustainable development principles."

"About 90 percent of our products are exported," Xu added. "This batch is headed for India, the US, and Germany. Our goal is to bring more Chinese bamboo products to the world and let the world witness the strength and charm of China's bamboo industry."

Today, with Sentai Bamboo & Wood as its leading enterprise, Shangyou county has built a full-chain bamboo industry system. Its products are exported to more than 30 countries and regions, including the US, Denmark, Australia, and Germany.
