China's violin industry capital showcases new vitality

Dubbed the capital of China's violin industry, Huangqiao town in Taixing city, Jiangsu province, is striving to enrich the lives of its people with industry and culture, making the town a model for rural vitalization.

The town has built a complete violin industrial chain, with the settlement of more than 220 violin production and supporting enterprises and occupying 70 percent of the domestic market and 40 percent of the global market share.

Along the violin production chain, various job opportunities are being offered, from wood dryer and paint craftsman to parts polisher and tuner.

Driven by leading enterprises such as Jiangsu Fengling Musical Instrument, the violin industry alone has helped over 30,000 locals get employment, with 80 percent of them being local farmers.

The town has also established a training headquarters for musical instrument craftsmen, which can help workers to greatly increase their salaries.

The three major projects of "renowned craftsmen, famous enterprises, and famous brands" have elevated Huangqiao violin to the high-end of the value chain. For instance, in the private customization workshop of Jiangsu Fengling Musical Instrument, the price of handmade violins can even exceed 100,000 yuan ($13,931).

In the new era, Huangqiao is expanding its violin-related efforts to include fields such as product research and development and musical education.

More than 85 percent of students in the town receive systematic music and art education and 45 percent of students participate in instrument popularization courses.

To boost tourism, the town is developing attractions such as an instrument expo hall and violin themed sculptures, while also launching a special tourism route focused on violin making, allowing tourists to experience violin culture while making violin accessories themselves.

Today, music has become integrated into the daily lives of Huangqiao people, and almost everyone can play one or two beloved instruments.
