Construction of the Apple iCloud China (Guian) Data Center began in Guian New Area, South China's Guizhou province on May 25.

With a cost of $1 billion, the center is expected to become a business hub for China iCloud operation, increasing speed and improving stability for Chinese users of Apple products.

Covering an area of 150 mu (10 hectares), the Guian Apple center was registered in September 2017 and is the company's first data center in China. The center is expected to expand to up to 430 mu in the future.

In addition to the data center, Apple will establish data pivots across China to store users' data locally, which will increase computing speed and improve service quality.

There has been an increasing number of technology giants opening centers in Guian, including Tencent, Huawei, Qualcomm and China's top three telecommunication operators.

Guian's abundant resources, fresh air and comfortable climate, along with its commitment to high-end and green development, make it an ideal place for companies to settle. The Guian Apple center will be fully powered by renewable energy upon completion.

The area will accelerate the application of big data in preparation for reforms in areas such as real economy, rural revitalization, people's livelihood and social governance. It will also explore new ways to stimulate the development of shared economy through big data.
