Updated: 2018-07-31

Members of the CSSA-UK (Chinese Students and Scholars Association UK) to Wuhan visited the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), in central China’s Hubei province, on July 21.

More than 300 people attended a greeting ceremony to welcome them, including overseas Chinese, innovation experts, high-level professionals, and members of youth innovation and entrepreneurship teams.

At the greeting ceremony, an innovation base for Chinese and British youths in Wuhan was unveiled, which will aim to promote young entrepreneur projects and innovation between the two countries.

Peng Hao, director of the administrative committee of WHDZ, promoted the zone to those present. The zone also signed an agreement with CSSA-UK at the event, with the aim of promoting Sino-British exchanges of high-level professionals and collaboration in innovation and entrepreneurship projects.

The semi-final for the CSSA-UK 30th Anniversary High-level Entrepreneurship Challenge and the 13th “Chunhui Cup” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas Chinese also took place in WHDZ on the day.

More than 500 startup projects from all over the world have participated in the competition since it began on May 26.

After preliminary contests, 20 teams from top universities such as Cambridge University and Oxford University made it through to the semi-final, with projects covering areas including artificial intelligence, biomedicine, internet plus, and new energy.

Eight teams made it through to the final, which will be held at later date.
