Hangzhou woos innovative overseas talents

Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, is sparing no efforts to attract innovative overseas talents, as the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas Talents 2018 is taking place in the city.

Hosted by the CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and the Hangzhou Municipal Government, the competition is open to innovative and entrepreneurial overseas students and foreign expats, who are being encouraged to develop their innovation and entrepreneurship skills and start businesses in Hangzhou.

Candidates are mainly from developed countries and regions, including North America and Europe, accounting for 60 percent of the total participation.

More than 200 projects, especially in areas of the digital economy, have been registered in the competition since the launch in February and 27 have excelled in the preliminaries.

Meanwhile, a matchmaking activity is also being held during the competition, offering candidates an opportunity to meet with business partners and investors and facilitate the implementation of projects.

The finals will be held in the city on Aug 8 when one first prize, three second prizes and five third prizes will be selected.

Since its establishment in 2015, the competition has attracted a total of more than 1,500 projects from over 20 countries and regions. Seventy projects have stationed in the city with a registered capital of 600 million yuan ($87.69 million).
