Online payment available for entry-exit documents in Shanghai

Online payment through Wechat, Alipay and UnionPay is now permitted in Shanghai when applying for or replacing entry-exit documents.

This move comes in addition to the implementation of measures which allow mainland residents to apply for or replace their entry-exit documents nationwide on Sept 1.

With the exception of the renewal of book permits for travelling to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan done through self-service machines, all other services related to entry-exit documents can be paid through WeChat, Alipay and UnionPay.

Residents of the Chinese mainland can directly scan the QR code on the receipt with their mobile phones to pay the fees after getting their permit.

Foreigners need to pay after their application is approved and before they get their travel documents. If the application is approved, foreigners should first go to the charging window with the receipt and pay through scanning the QR code on the electronic display at the window.

For the renewal of the electronic permit for travelling to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan through self-service machines, people can choose the "online payment" on the machines and then scan the QR code through mobile phones to pay the fees.
