Fuzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone was set up in the east of Fuzhou, Fujian province, with the approval of the State Council in January 1985.

Occupying 23 square kilometers, the zone has five main areas: Export Processing Zone, and Kuai'an, Majiang, Chang'an and Langqi areas.

Among them, Kuai'an Area focuses on the development of high-tech industries. Majiang Area is dedicated to developing into an economic and trade platform serving the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Chang'an Area stresses the processing trade and bonded warehousing, while Langqi Area is focusing on tourism, education and healthcare.

Over 30 years of development, electronic information, metal rolling, mechanical equipment manufacturing, and food and beverages have been the four major industries in the zone.

In 2017, the zone's industrial output value for enterprises above designated size reached 97.88 billion yuan ($14 billion), an increase of 8.9 percent year-on-year. Its fiscal income was 3.5 billion yuan and tax revenue was 6.4 billion yuan, increases of 2.2 percent and 9.2 percent year-on-year. The actual use of foreign capital in the zone was 2.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.6 percent.
