Deyang National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was upgraded to be a national-level development zone with the approval of the State Council in September 2015.

Next to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, the zone is located the southernmost part of Deyang city, covering a planning area of 68 square kilometers.

It has launched a series of polices to boost its industrial projects in areas such as biological medicine, medical apparatus and instruments. The zone plans to build a spatial framework of "one lake and six islands", which include the Sanxing Lake and six industrial islands: an intelligent island, a smart manufacturing island, an aviation island, a cultural island, a healthy island and a tax bonded island.

The zone has signed 14 projects with a total investment of 63.7 billion yuan ($9.47 million) in areas such as general aviation, biological medicine, equipment manufacturing, new materials and education.

In 2017, the zone achieved a gross industrial output value of 87.1 billion yuan with the output value of the high-tech industries accounting for 46 percent of the total.

It is home to 40 high-tech enterprises and a batch of national-level and provincial-level key labs, engineering research centers and academician expert workstations. A total of 600 patent applications were approved in 2017.
