Guangan Economic and Technological Development Zone was founded in July 1995 and upgraded to a national-level economic and technological development zone by the State Council in June 2010.

Located in the eastern part of the city, the zone, covering a planning area of 103 square kilometers, consists of Xinqiao industrial park, Lingang logistics park and Binjiang commercial park.

It is a national-level pioneering zone for industrial transformation, the only demonstration area for economic cooperation between Sichuan and Chongqing and a fine chemical base for the combination between gas and salt in Sichuan.

The zone focuses on developing fine chemicals, new materials, new energy and real estate industries. In recent years, it has made efforts to upgrade its industries and boost the development of energy and chemical industries, the new-generation of information technology and high-end equipment manufacturing.

With an investment of some 3 billion yuan ($445.7 million), the zone has built and operated its first and second innovation incubators. The third incubator is under construction and the area of all the incubators is expected to reach more than 500,000 square meters.

It has also attracted a series of innovative institutions such as the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology at Tsinghua University and the CCID think tank to further promote cooperation between companies and research institutes.

Its gross industrial output value in 2018 was a record high of more than10 billion yuan.
