In 2019, South China’s Guangdong province registered stellar GDP growth with a 6.2 percent year-on-year increase at comparable prices and hitting 10.77 trillion yuan ($1.55 trillion). It is the first province to have entered the 10-trillion yuan club.
Other provincial regions also made breakthroughs in GDP growth. Zhejiang province in East China generated 6 trillion yuan of GDP in 2019, up 6.8 percent year-on-year; Central China’s Henan province reached a total GDP volume of more than 5 trillion yuan, rising 7 percent over the previous year. The GDP of Hubei and Fujian recorded more than 4 trillion yuan for the first time.
In terms of GDP growth, Guizhou province topped the country with an 8.3 percent growth rate. In addition, the growth rate of Yunnan, Tibet and Jiangxi also exceeded 8 percent.
In 2019, as many as 19 provincial regions outpaced the national GDP growth rate 6.1 percent. They were Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hunan, Sichuan, Hubei, Anhui, Henan, Zhejiang, Hebei, Ningxia, Chongqing, Qinghai, Guangdong, Shanxi, Xinjiang and Gansu.
