Knorr-Bremse, a German auto parts manufacturer, signed an agreement with Suzhou New District to establish its China R&D center for commercial vehicle systems in the district on April 25.
Yang Zhiping, vice-mayor of Suzhou, expressed gratitude to the German company for settling the new project in SND and vowed to support the company's development in the city.
Xu Baoping, chairman of the board of directors of Knorr-Bremse Asia Pacific, thanked Suzhou and SND for supporting Knorr-Bremse's development, as well as praised the role that the Chinese market played during the COVID-19 pandemic for its business growth.
"With further cooperation with Suzhou, Knorr-Bremse will take the opportunity of the establishment of the commercial vehicle systems China R&D center to open up a larger commercial vehicle market and create new milestone in industrial development," Xu added.
According to the agreement, the new center will be invested in and built by Knorr-Bremse Commercial Vehicle System (China) Co in Suzhou Science and Technology Town, with a planned area of 5,200 square meters. A team of 300 staff members will be engaged in the R&D of smart driving technology for commercial vehicles to improve road traffic safety and efficiency.
Knorr-Bremse is a world leading manufacturer of brake systems in rail vehicles and commercial vehicles with 100 branches in 30 countries all over the world.
Founded in SND in 2005, Knorr-Bremse Systems for Rail Vehicles (Suzhou) Co is a wholly-owned subsidiary and a major manufacturing facility for brake systems catering to domestic markets.
