Tianjin robot electricians wow foreign guests

Robots used for power distribution systems amazed foreign journalists and internet influencers from countries such as the United States and Ireland on Saturday in North China's Tianjin during "A Date with China" international media tour.

The robots adopt the world's leading multi-sensor fusion positioning and intelligent path planning technologies, and help replace manual work and reduce safety risks while improving operational quality.

The latest generation of robot electricians, developed by State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company, was put into service in Tianjin last June.

Tianjin has geared up support for artificial intelligence industries, especially robotics.

Having hosted five sessions of the World Intelligence Congress, the city rolled out multiple incentives for smart manufacturing, including financial aid.

In 2019, the Tianjin Municipal Government and State Grid Corporation inked a strategic cooperation framework agreement, based on which State Grid Corporation established a distribution network, an operational robot industrialization base and an intelligent robot company in Tianjin in a bid to improve the entire industrial chain that includes R&D, production, sales, and operation and maintenance services.

As of this June, Tianjin-based robotics-related companies numbered almost 190, with an industrial scale reaching 20.8 billion yuan ($3.26 billion), according to the city’s Robot Industry Association.

Thanks to its robotics, the city’s intelligence equipment industry saw a 21.3 year-on-year growth in output value during the Jan-July period.
