The 2022 China International Travel Mart (CITM) concluded on July 24 in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province. The three-day event saw Kunming sign four deals worth 63.7 billion yuan ($9.43 billion), promising to boost the spring city’s railway network, add more tour destinations, and enrich visitors’ travel experience.
With such hefty investment, Kunming also secured the top place in Yunnan which pocketed a total of 332.25 billion yuan investments with 81 culture and tourism projects during the event.
Covering an area of about 80,000 square meters, the international travel fair attracted exhibitors from 71 countries and regions to take part online or on site.
With mild weather and diverse flora and fauna, Kunming -- also known as the "city of spring and flowers" -- attracts hordes of tourists year round.
According to Wang Xun, deputy mayor, the city received 104 million tourists and achieved tourism revenue amounting to 119 billion yuan in the first half of this year. Especially in June, Kunming welcomed 21.47 million tourists, 1.5 times more from the same period in 2019.
Leveraging its rich natural and historical resources, Kunming has launched tourism projects that promote new modes and products.
Kunming will introduce high-end brand hotels and develop characteristic homestays to help shape the city into a world-renowned leisure destination, Wang added. He extended invitations to companies to join hands with Kunming, achieve mutual benefit and create new glory for Kunming's tourism development.
