Efforts made by Suzhou New District in East China's Jiangsu province in intellectual property protection gained national recognition on Aug 29 as the district was listed a national demonstration zone in IP protection.
Statistics show that in the first half of this year alone, SND has gained authorization of 8,247 patents, a year-on-year increase of 20.29 percent and ranking first in the city. The number of patents owned by 10,000 people in SND reached 130.79, 1.78 times the average of the city.
The inspiring results were due to SND's continued dedication to IP protection, by proactively improving and implementing policies and forging a new architecture of coordinated regional IP protection.
In addition to rolling out a three-year plan from 2021 to 2023 on IP protection across the district, SND has also placed emphasis on the protection of its pillar and distinctive industries, such as the silk embroidery industry in Zhenhu town, birthplace of the time-honored Su Embroidery.
SND has also set up an IP protection training system, providing local enterprises, industries, maker spaces, and incubators with systematic and professional IP training covering their full life cycle.
Raycan Technology Co (Suzhou), an enterprise that specializes in the development and production of radiation detection and imaging equipment in SND, has benefited from the district's IP protection work.
In July this year, it stood out from 272 companies from 62 countries to win the Global Award issued by World Intellectual Property Organization, recognizing its dedication to using IP to make a positive impact at home and abroad. The award was initiated by WIPO for the first time to celebrate innovative commercial solutions based on IP rights and promote economic, social and cultural progress.
