Loaded with new energy vehicles (NEVs) of Germany-based Mercedes-Benz Smart, a China-Europe Chang'an freight train arrived in the city of Duisburg in Germany on Oct 15, and completed all the customs clearance procedures on Oct 24.
It was the first time the freight train had transported NEVs made in China to Europe, marking the further expansion of the categories of goods transported by the rail service.
The freight train departed from Xi'an International Port Station, leaving the country via Alashankou Port in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and passed through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland and other countries.
The total journey took 16 days.
This year, the plant of Mercedes-Benz Smart in Xi'an began operation and has started to lay out its overseas sales network.
Xi'an International Lugang Multimodal Transport Co, operator of the freight train, provided the NEV manufacturer with full-process logistics solutions to ensure transportation safety and security.
"This has opened up a new land logistics channel for the export of Smart NEVs," said a spokesman from the company.
Moving forwards, plans are for Xi'an International Lugang Multimodal Transport Co to provide efficient, high-quality and professional international multimodal transportation services for automobile companies.
This is expected to help the products made in China to go global and contribute to the development of an international trade channel with high efficiency, low costs and premium services.
