Chinese electric carmaker Hozon has joined hands with battery giant CATL to work on the body-on-frame architecture, with the first model expected to hit the market in late 2024.
The architecture is commonly known as the skateboard chassis, which houses the batteries, electric motors, and other electronic components vital to an electric model.
The deal they two inked on Tuesday has made Hozon the first startup to introduce CATL's cutting-edge platform, which is called the CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis.
The platform, due to its structure, will help cut cost, extend the driving range and offer more legroom for the driver and passengers, said Hozon.
Hozon expects the new deal to further deepen its cooperation with CATL that started in 2021.
Hozon is one of the most popular electric carmakers in China, with over 150,000 units sold in 2022, up 118 percent year-on-year. It expects sales to reach 250,000 units in 2023.
