CTIEC shines in glass exports with building of new Indonesian factory

State-owned China Triumph International Engineering Co Ltd, the world's largest glass engineering service provider, will build the largest high-end glass factory in Indonesia, according to a contract signed in late April.

Upon completion, the melting load for sheets of float glass at the facility will reach 1,200 metric tons per day.

KCC Group, a major South Korean coating and building materials production enterprise that is jointly investing in the Indonesia glass factory, and CTIEC signed the contract in Jakarta during the Shanghai-Jakarta Overseas Investment Symposium and Project Signing Event.

In 2015, CTIEC completed the construction of a glass manufacturing site with the same capacity in South Korea. The project in Indonesia marks a new milestone for China's float glass technology and complete equipment exports to other countries.

"Integrating the concept of smart factories and intelligent manufacturing, the production facility in Indonesia will be on par with the world's advanced levels in overall equipment configuration, processing standards and intelligence level," said Peng Shou, chairman of CTIEC and an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

"With this plant, the manufacturing level of the country's float glass industry will be significantly improved and the continuous provision of high-quality float glass to the local market will be guaranteed," he said.

Further details of the contract cannot be disclosed for commercial confidentiality reasons.

As an avid participant in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, CTIEC said it has been adhering to innovation, open and green development, and vigorously expanding its overseas footprint over the past years.

"Our goal is to ensure that our business performance overseas will be parallel with our domestic performance within a decade. Hence, we'll get closer to fulfilling our strategic goal of building the company into a world-class investment group in the building materials industry with global competitiveness," Peng said.

Possessing key core technologies, such as the world's thinnest 0.12-millimeter electronic touch glass, 30-micron flexible foldable glass and large-area cadmium telluride power generation glass, CTIEC so far has a presence in more than 50 countries and regions, exporting 64 high-end glass production lines. Its global market share of high-end glass engineering remains stable at over 65 percent.

CTIEC's collaboration with Indonesia dates back two decades — in 1993, the Chinese company signed a contract with Tensindo, an Indonesian infrastructure construction enterprise, to construct a float glass plant with a production of 300 tons per day, making Indonesia one of the first overseas markets to receive Chinese float glass technology and equipment.

The two sides upgraded collaboration in 2004 with a contract to build another float glass production line with a production of 900 tons per day. It became the first super-large-scale float glass production line for complete export from China.

This year marks the 10th year that the BRI was put forth. For 10 consecutive years, China has been Indonesia's largest trading partner. In 2022, the bilateral trade volume between the two countries reached $149.4 billion, an increase of more than 20 percent year-on-year.
