ElringKlinger Group, a listed German technology company, inaugurated its Asia headquarters for high-performance materials in the Sino-German Ecopark in Qingdao on April 21.
The facility focuses on advanced sectors including high-speed sealing for NEV electric drives, fluoroplastic heat exchangers for energy storage and semiconductors, and medical device components, offering high-performance plastic solutions for a wide range of industries.
The project's rapid evolution is remarkable. In March 2024, ElringKlinger established a plastics technology factory in Qingdao with 10 million euros ($10.9 million) registered capital. Customized plant construction began immediately. In 2025, the factory was delivered.
"2025 was a pivotal year," said Sun Bo from ElringKlinger. That year, the company not only relocated the core product lines of its high-performance materials division from other Chinese cities entirely to Qingdao, but also achieved an output value of 150 million yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 80 percent.
"The growth in sales shows that the market recognizes our localization capabilities," Sun added.
Based on this performance, the company decided to further expand its presence in Qingdao, and decided to launch its Asia headquarters for high-performance materials in Qingdao.
Equipped with an energy-efficient refrigeration and heating system, photovoltaic panels, geothermal energy, and an intelligent building management system, its Asia headquarters not only significantly reduces energy consumption but also quadruples production capacity.
The factory will focus on introducing highly technically demanding products such as semiconductor-grade heat exchangers and diaphragm sheets, thereby extending the company's business layout from automotive and medical applications into high‑end semiconductor equipment manufacturing — further serving its localization strategy.
"We will continue investing in Qingdao, building a local R&D center and expanding our team," said Dirk Willers, chief sales officer of ElringKlinger. The company aims to achieve 200 million yuan in output value this year.
The Sino-German Ecopark, home to 72 German-speaking enterprises with a total investment exceeding $550 million, continues to deepen Sino-German cooperation, aiming to provide a world-class business environment for companies like ElringKlinger.
