The Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) is co-hosted by China Media Group and the People's Government of Hainan Province, under the guidance of the China Film Administration. It has been held in Sanya every December for three years.
The HIIFF is dedicated to strengthening international film and culture exchange and collaboration, promoting innovative development in the film industry, and fostering creativity in filmmaking. The Golden Coconut Awards is hosted by China Media Group. It is comprised of three categories: Feature-length Films, Feature-length Documentaries, and Short Films. A jury comprising professionals from the international film and cultural community will select outstanding talents and films for awards in various categories.
The 3rd Hainan Island International Film Festival was held in Sanya from December 5 to 12 in 2020. One hundred and eighty-nine films from more than 60 countries and regions around the world were showcased in 15 cinemas in four cities: Haikou, Sanya, Danzhou and Qionghai. Of those, 97 were premiered in China as part of the festival, the highest number in HIIFF history.
