On Feb 8, the Ministry of Education released its main work points for 2022, emphasizing that it will promote the construction of Hainan International Education Innovation Island, as well as further efforts to attract international high-level universities and vocational colleges in the Hainan Free Trade Port.

The construction of Hainan International Education Innovation Island achieved high-quality improvement last year. The construction of key parks, including Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone, has accelerated, while 43 domestic "double first-class" universities and world-renowned universities, such as Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in Germany and EHL Hospitality Business School in Switzerland, have been introduced.
As of the end of 2021, Hainan province has signed more than 120 educational cooperation projects and started construction on more than 420 projects, with an investment of 35 billion yuan ($5.5 billion). At the same time, the province's education system has introduced about 24,000 talents, of which more than 1,700 are high-level talents, such as academicians at home and abroad, famous teachers, as well as national-level experts with outstanding contributions.
