According to the Sanya Customs, Sanya's foreign trade value was 12.08 billion yuan ($1.79 billion) in the first half of 2022, an increase of 21.8 percent year-on-year, accounting for 13.2 percent of Hainan's total, ranking third in Hainan province.

The EU was the largest trading partner of Sanya in this period. The city's imports and exports to the EU were valued at 5.67 billion yuan, up 20.4 percent, accounting for 47 percent of Sanya's total foreign trade. In addition, its imports and exports to the 14 RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) member countries amounted to 1.51 billion yuan, down 25.6 percent.
The city's exports of mechanical and electrical products were valued at 620 million yuan, surging 395.7 percent and accounting for 77.8 percent of the total export value, of which mobile phones made up 270 million yuan and automobiles made up 210 million yuan of the total. In addition, the imported value of beauty cosmetics and toiletries was valued at 6.45 billion yuan, an increase of 108.4 percent, that of clothing and clothing accessories was valued at 760 million yuan, growing 32 percent, while that of watches and clocks was valued at 610 million yuan, a decrease of 35.4 percent.
The foreign trade value of State-owned enterprises was 10.67 billion yuan, accounting for 77.4 percent of the city's foreign trade value, while that of private enterprises was 1.39 billion yuan, dropping 18.3 percent. In addition, the imported and exported value of foreign-invested enterprises was 12.22 million yuan, growing 36.7 percent.
