Hainan seized the opportunity of cross-provincial tourism recovery this year and implemented a series of measures to promote consumption. Although Spring Festival has passed for more than a month, Hainan's tourism market continues to be hot.
In Sanya, the number of tourists received during the Spring Festival holiday increased by 616,400 over the same period in 2019. After the seven-day holiday, major scenic spots, hotels and duty-free shops were still crowded. Sanya International Phoenix Airport had 1.11 million inbound passengers in January, up 22.38 percent year on year.
With the help of colorful activities, the occupancy rate of Atlantis Sanya in January reached a new high since its opening. From Feb 10 to 19, the average occupancy rate of Sanya's tourism hotels remained at about 80 percent.
In terms of duty-free shopping, Sanya Customs supervised 5.99 billion yuan ($864 million) of offshore duty-free purchases from Jan 7 to Feb 15, accounting for 66.95 percent of the total amount in Hainan.
There has been an endless stream of tourists after the festival. The number of visitors to 17 scenic spots in Sanya has recently been steady at more than 120,000 per day.
According to the data of the Sanya Yachting Association, 18,000 yachts set sail in January, up 3.18 percent year on year, serving 180,000 tourists, up 59.29 percent year on year. In Phoenix Island, some tourism companies have launched low-altitude flight products at a preferential price.
In Hainan's Shimei Bay, Riyue Bay and Shenzhou Peninsula, surfing, sailing and other sports tourism are booming. With customized services and personalized living experience, all kinds of recreational vehicles and tent camps have set off a new trend in tourism.
Hainan's outbound tourism market also accelerated its recovery. In the middle and late February, Hainan resumed international passenger routes from Haikou to Phnom Penh and Bangkok. On Feb 28, the passenger route from Sanya to Hong Kong was also resumed.
