About 1,400 mu (93.33 hectares) of durian will be ripe for sale at the durian base in Sanya's Yucai Ecological Area in June, with a yield of up to 3,500 kilograms per mu and an output value of more than 100,000 yuan ($14,434) per mu.
In recent years, Sanya has introduced excellent tropical fruit and vegetable resources and promoted the construction of numerous breeding and demonstration bases.
The durian base in Sanya's Yucai Ecological Area has taken shape, with more than 8,500 mu of durian planted there now. Over 1,000 mu will soon be ripe to provide the city with a new economic growth point.
Sanya will use the durian base as a solid foundation on which to build a town capitalizing on the benefits of producing durian to benefit farmers and vendors in the nearby area. The move will also improve domestic output of the fruit and reduce the country's dependence on imports.
To accelerate the development of the durian industry, a Sanya Yucai modern agricultural industrial park will be set up, mainly to serve as a processing and production base.
The integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary durian industries will contribute to the transformation and upgrading of Sanya's agriculture. The development of the industry as a whole will increase farmers' income and accelerate the vitalization of rural industries.
