According to the statistics released by Sanya Customs, Sanya's goods trade volume to foreign countries and regions reached 12.43 billion yuan ($1.71 billion) in the first five months of 2023, marking a 14.2 percent increase when compared to the same period last year. This accounts for 12.9 percent of Hainan's total trade volume, ranking third in the province.
Among the total, the city's exports amounted to 1.31 billion yuan, showing a significant growth of 88.7 percent, while its imports reached 11.12 billion yuan, indicating a steady increase of 9.1 percent.
Duty-free imports accounted for over 40 percent of Sanya's total, with general trade experiencing a substantial growth. Sanya saw a duty-free import throughput worth 5 billion yuan, a slight increase of 0.4 percent year-on-year. The city's general trade imports and exports totaled 4.09 billion yuan, showing a remarkable increase of 303.3 percent.
State-owned enterprises remained Sanya's dominant trade entity, while its private enterprises showed positive growth. The imports and exports of State-owned enterprises accounted for 8.47 billion yuan, representing 68.2 percent of the city's total. Private enterprises saw an import and export throughput worth 3.95 billion yuan, marking a remarkable increase of 284.5 percent.
The European Union, Switzerland, and Japan are Sanya's top three trading partners. Sanya's imports and exports with the European Union amounted to 4.13 billion yuan, accounting for 33.2 percent of the total. During the same period, imports and exports with Switzerland amounted to 1.63 billion yuan, marking an increase of 18.7 percent. Imports and exports with Japan reached 1.57 billion yuan, showing a growth of 56.2 percent.
Beauty and personal care products are the main imported goods in Sanya, while electromechanical products account for 78.8 percent of the city's total exports, becoming the main exported goods.
