In the first half of 2023, Sanya's GDP was 46.76 billion yuan ($6.5 billion), with a year-on-year growth of 10.3 percent at constant prices, said the Sanya municipal bureau of statistics on July 22.
The added value of Sanya's primary sector was 7.08 billion yuan, up 4.1 percent; that of its secondary sector was 4.59 billion yuan, up 1.5 percent; and that of its tertiary sector was 35.1 billion yuan, up 12.7 percent.
In the first half of the year, the total retail sales of consumer goods in the city reached 26.32 billion yuan, an increase of 8.9 percent year-on-year. The offshore duty-free retail sales in the city reached 16.46 billion yuan, an increase of 11.3 percent year-on-year.
During this period, the total import and export of goods in the city reached 13.93 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.7 percent. Among them, the import volume was 12.58 billion yuan and the export volume was 1.35 billion yuan, increasing by 11.9 percent and 68.4 percent year-on-year, respectively.
Sanya's tourism market is also growing rapidly, and the economic benefits of its tourism sector have improved. In the first half of the year, the city received 13.27 million overnight tourists, a year-on-year growth of 67.4 percent. The total tourism revenue of the city reached 47.53 billion yuan, a growth of 80.5 percent year-on-year.
