Sanya recently took a major step forward in developing its tropical fruit and vegetable industry by releasing an implementation plan for the 2023-25 period.
With guidance from the government and special subsidies, Sanya will extend its tropical fruit industry chain, expand its production and revenue scale, as well as create new and innovative tropical fruit varieties.
According to the plan, Sanya aims to become a leading hub for tropical fruit and vegetable research and development. By 2025, the city plans to collect and preserve over 300 different germplasm resources, while also focusing on cultivating at least five new fruit varieties and more than 10 new vegetable varieties.
If the plan is implemented correctly, Sanya will have an estimated cultivation area of 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares) by 2025, bringing its expected revenue to a staggering total of 3 billion yuan ($417.7 million).
According to the plan, Sanya will also set up incentives for the introduction, cultivation, planting, and promotion of new varieties.
