The economy of Sanya experienced good growth from January to July this year, according to the Sanya municipal statistics bureau.
During the seven months, the city's industrial output value hit 5.53 billion yuan ($760 million), an increase of 14.2 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, the city's service industry generated operating revenue of 13.66 billion yuan, representing a whopping growth rate of 55.6 percent.
In terms of the retail sector, sales of consumer goods in the city reached 30.16 billion yuan from January to July, up 4.7 percent. Of that, sales of offshore duty-free goods brought in 18.12 billion yuan, an increase of 1.9 percent.
According to customs statistics, the total value of imports and exports goods in the city from January to July amounted to 15.75 billion yuan, representing year-on-year growth of 11.9 percent. Of that, imports were worth 14.09 billion yuan, up 7.3 percent, while exports surged to 1.65 billion yuan, up 76.9 percent.
In terms of tourism, the city received 15.33 million overnight tourists from January to July, a year-on-year increase of 53.7 percent, including 107,900 inbound visitors. The city's total tourism revenue reached 54.63 billion yuan, reflecting a growth rate of 63.5 percent.
Moreover, Sanya Phoenix International Airport handled 13.04 million passengers during the period, marking an increase of 86.4 percent year-on-year.
