Sanya Customs recently announced that the value of imports and exports in goods trade in Sanya hit 15.75 billion yuan ($2.16 billion) in the first seven months, up 11.9 percent compared with the same period last year.
Sanya accounted for 11.8 percent of the total value of imports and exports in Hainan, ranking it third in the province. Breaking down the total, Sanya's exports amounted to 1.65 billion yuan, up 76.9 percent, while imports reached 14.1 billion yuan, up 7.3 percent.
During the period, Sanya imported 6.78 billion yuan worth of duty-free goods, an increase of 13 percent, accounting for 43 percent of the city's total imports and exports.
Trade through general customs amounted to 5.94 billion yuan, a growth of 2.6 times. In addition, trade via bonded logistics decreased by 5.28 percent to 3.03 billion yuan.
In the first seven months, State-owned enterprises handled 11.01 billion yuan in imports and exports, accounting for 69.9 percent of the total, while private enterprises handled 4.73 billion yuan, accounting for 30 percent. Foreign-invested enterprises handled 7.8 million yuan in imports and exports, a growth of 1.8 times.
The European Union, Switzerland and Japan were the top three trading partners of Sanya. Sanya's import and export trade with the EU amounted to 5.15 billion yuan. Trade with Switzerland reached 2.11 billion yuan, an increase of 34.9 percent, while trade with Japan reached 1.84 billion yuan, an increase of 37.7 percent.
Imports were mainly cosmetic and personal care products, while exports were mainly electromechanical products.
