Hainan recently issued an action plan for reinvigorating its industrial economy and promoting high-quality industry development, with a particular focus on strengthening the promotion of new energy vehicles (NEVs).
The promotion of NEVs in Hainan province has achieved remarkable results. In 2021, 58,700 NEVs were sold, accounting for 25.8 percent of the province's added vehicles, 13.1 percentage points higher than the national average. The growth rate of NEV ownership was 91 percent, ranking first in the country.
According to the plan, Hainan will focus on a number of high-quality industrial and information industry key investment projects, spanning the offshore oil and gas, biomedicine, internet, smart manufacturing, NEVs, marine equipment, aerospace, as well as energy conservation and environmental protection fields.
The plan requires that the NEV-related industries should be rationally distributed, as well as that enterprises involved in producing key parts and components for NEVs should be cultivated to form a good industrial chain.
To promote the consumption of NEVs, Hainan will take measures like carrying out promotional activities in rural areas, encouraging automobile dealerships to open night markets, and holding exhibitions. In addition, Hainan will promote the province's NEVs battery swap pilot work and guide Sanya in becoming a national pilot city in NEV battery swapping.
