Overview of Sanya
The city of Sanya, also called "Lucheng" (the city of deer, which is named by Luhuitou), is located on the island of Hainan and borders Lingshui county in the east, Ledong county in the west, Baoting county in the north, and the South China Sea in the south. It has jurisdiction over four administrative districts, namely Haitang, Jiyang, Tianya, and Yazhou, and has a total land area of 1,921 square kilometers plus a sea area of 3,500 square kilometers.
Sanya's GDP reached 69.54 billion yuan ($10.76 billion) in 2020, an increase of 3.1 percent year-on-year. With its unique geographical environment, Sanya is the only city in China that enjoys both tropical rainforest and ocean scenery. The city is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and the three beautiful landscapes of mountains, the sea, and rivers come together naturally. Many of its hilltops also provide places overlooking the sea, the bay, and the urban landscape. The natural scenery and excellent ecological environment make Sanya a paradise for daily life, travel, and vacations.
Climate:
Sanya is located in the tropical oceanic monsoon climate zone, with an annual average temperature of 25.7°C.
Ecology:
The forest coverage rate is 69 percent and the air quality stands at the very best level in China; the annual achievement rate of "Good Air Days" is 98.6 percent.
Tourism:
Sanya is an international tourist city with tropical coastal scenery, also known as an "Oriental Hawaii".

Medical Resources
Sanya is rich in medical resources and has a number of medical institutions such as Sanya Central Hospital (formerly Hainan Province Nongken Sanya Hospital, the Third People's Hospital of Hainan Province), the Sanya People's Hospital, the Sanya Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and the Hainan Branch of the General Hospital of People's Liberation Army (301 Hospital). In 2018, the Sanya Women and Children's Hospital was established and opened under the custody of the Shanghai Children's Medical Center.
Educational Environment
In recent years, many famous schools such as the Affiliated High School of Renmin University of China, the Affiliated High School of Peking University, and the Affiliated High School of Shanghai International Studies University have been successfully opened in Sanya, and there are more than 50,000 students in colleges and universities, such as the Hainan Tropical Ocean University, Sanya College, and the Sanya Aviation and Tourism College.
Transport Network
Highways in Sanya extend in all directions. Sanya is connected to Haikou and all areas of the province via the roundabout expressway and the Sanya-Haihou Central Highway.

Phoenix Island International Cruise Port and Central Fishing Port have both been built. In the near future, Sanya will become an important hub for marine passenger transportation and freightage in the south of Hainan Island.
With the completion of the Guangdong-Hainan railway, Sanya has been integrated into the domestic railway network, with freight and passenger transport available to travel directly across the country. In 2015, the first tropical circular high-speed railway in the world was completed. It takes three hours to travel around the island and 90 minutes to reach Haikou from Sanya.
In 2018, Sanya became the first non-provincial and prefecture-level city in China with an annual air passenger count of more than 20 million. Today, Sanya operates airline services to more than 99 cities at home and abroad. Sanya Phoenix International Airport currently operates 160 domestic routes, and 54 international or regional routes. This is facilitating an effective connection between international routes and domestic routes, gradually forming an international circle of voyages that take "4 hours, 8 hours, and 12 hours”.

Sanya will initiate a “tourism + X” model, improve and optimize its tourism industry chain, and strive to build a tourism industry system that takes sightseeing tours as its foundation, leisure holidays as its priority, and features cultural and sports tours, exhibition tours, and health tours.

Sanya is committed to becoming the world's leading international cruise tourism consumption center, an important cruise materials supply base for the Asia-Pacific region, a world-class yacht tourism destination, and an internationally-famous yacht display and trading center.

The city will make full use of its high-quality education and training resources at home and abroad to strengthen education and training cooperation and cultivate high-level international talents, as well as carefully creating brands for its major cultural and sports activities to drive the development of culture and sports related industries.
